Study of Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Extraction Process from Ilmenite Banten

Abstract Ilmenite is found in the form of iron sand with reserves 927,315,827 tons spread across several regions Indonesia, including Banten which has seven million sand. This mineral can be used as a raw material for making TiO 2 pigments. The problem faced use its complex structure causes difficulties at processing stage. synthesis from ilmenite ore commonly sulfate process and chloride process. less environmentally friendly, excessive costs, produces lot liquid waste. While requires high-grade materials chlorine gas. Therefore, this study, using caustic fusion, acid leaching hydrochloric acid, citric were conducted. Caustic fusion conducted ratio between NaOH 1:2, temperature 850 °C time 60 minutes. Then next water leaching. result study that obtained each producing powder pigment 94.189% , acetic 37.099% 41.480% without 43.991% .
